BRONZEVILLE — Vandals attacked a truck on Friday that bore a sign denouncing Gov. Bruce Rauner and State Rep. Ken Dunkin (D-5th), according to police and Ald. Brendan Reilly (42nd).
Around 12:20 p.m. Friday, three men jumped onto the van outside an early voting polling place wielding box cutters, according to Officer Janel Sedevic, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.
The Downtown alderman tweeted out a photo of the truck, which had Dunkin's name cut off of it, he said, outside the Chicago Bee Library, 3647 S. State Street in Bronzeville.
The men also removed the truck's side-view mirror before fleeing in a black Kia, Sedevic said.
One of the vandals "pulled a gun" on the truck driver, Reilly said, but the truck driver was doing "OK."
Reilly tweeted that he believes Dunkin supporters were behind the vandalism, but police could not confirm that as of Friday evening.
Contrary to Reilly's tweet, police told said Saturday that no one is in custody for the vandalism.
Dunkin has drawn the ire of Illinois Democrats who say he betrayed the party by working with Republicans, including Rauner. He faces a primary challenge from Democrat Juliana Stratton, behind whom powerful Democrats like Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle, Sec. of State Jesse White and several Chicago aldermen have thrown their weight.
Dunkin could not be reached for comment Saturday.
