CHICAGO — Chicagoans sure do love Thin Mints.

Last year, more than 40,800 area Girl Scouts sold 4.5 million boxes of cookies, according to data from the Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana.

Nearly 1.4 million of those boxes were Thin Mints.

This weekend, the organization is beginning this year's booth sale season featuring a new buttery cookie called Toffee-tastic, according to spokeswoman L'Oreal Payton.

The organization has also scheduled four days — March 23, March 31, April 7 and April 19 — for selling cookies at businesses in the Loop.

And, if the names of Girl Scout Cookies in Chicago aren't what you're used to, here's a great Los Angeles Times explainer on why the names differ (and whether the recipes do, too).
