DOWNTOWN — CTA Blue Line riders will no longer lose cell service once their train dips underground, Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced Wednesday morning.
A month after making 4G available through part of the Blue Line's O'Hare branch, the CTA has now stretched the service along the entire subway line, according to a Wednesday press release from the mayor's office.
The city plans to extend the service to the Red Line subway "later this year," the release said, making Chicago the "largest city in North America to have a subway system with full 4G wireless coverage across its structure."
The project was funded entirely by the country's four major major wireless carriers — T-Mobile, AT&T, Verizon and Sprint — at no cost to the CTA, according to the release.
