CHICAGO — DePaul and Lane Tech's track teams have a new surface to play on.

Lane Tech College Prep's six-lane track oval and long jump/triple jump runways were resurfaced last week. The track, which also is used by DePaul University's teams, was first finished in 2007 but had needed repairs badly in the last few years, according to Lane Tech distance coach Tony Jones.

"The track has sorely needed to be resurfaced for several years," Jones said. "Lines on the track were faded completely in some areas. There were potholes on some portions of the track as well."

Jones said the resurfacing cost in the "low six figures" and was paid for by DePaul.

DePaul director of sports information/media relations Greg Greenwell said the Blue Demons have used the facility since at least 2008. Greenwell said DePaul signed a long-term agreement and paid for the lease at the start of the agreement.

Lane Tech Stadium is home to Lane's track and field teams, plus DePaul's, through a long-term lease, according to Lane Tech's website. The track meets NCAA standards "with dedicated areas for cages, pits and other amenities," according to Lane Tech.

"This resurfacing is like a dream come true," Jones said.
