CHICAGO — In town to play a soldout show at Wrigley Field, Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl stopped by one of his favorite Chicago hangouts Friday night: Wicker Park's Piece.

The rock legend popped into the pizzeria with an entourage of 15 family and friends around 8 to 10 p.m. Friday, Piece owner Bill Jacobs said.

"Customers were of course excited," Jacobs said of the appearance by the Foo Fighters singer-guitarist and former Nirvana drummer.

Grohl is friends with Rick Nielson, member of rock band Cheap Trick and a partner in the brewery and pizzeria, and stops by Piece, 1927 W. North Ave., whenever he is in town. Cheap Trick opens for Foo Fighters at a concert at Wrigley Field Saturday night.

While at Piece Friday, Grohl dined on an assortment of Piece's varied pizzas: He sampled the mushroom-meatball-green pepper-black olive; the pepperoni and bacon; the onion-mushroom-green pepper-garlic; and, more trandtionally, the pepperoni and green pepper.
