ROSCOE VILLAGE — Starting time changes won't be needed after all at Lane Tech College Prep High School during the upcoming academic year, as CPS has backtracked on a plan to move the bell schedule at dozens of schools.
In late July, CPS announced that more than 80 schools would either start earlier or later in order to save the district money on transportation costs. Lane Tech, 2501 W. Addison St., was one of the schools shifted to a 9 a.m. start, drawing complaints about the impact on extracurriculars and sports among other concerns.
Acting Principal David Gilligan announced a compromise that would have students in grades 9 through 12 start their day at 8:05 a.m. and be dismissed at 3:20 p.m. Seventh and eighth graders enrolled in Lane Tech's Academic Center (LTAC), along with certain special ed students, would begin at 9 a.m. and be dismissed at 4:15 p.m.
On Aug. 10, CPS rolled back its changes at 34 schools, including Lane Tech. Seventh through 12th graders will now all start their day at 8 a.m.
