ALBANY PARK — A fixture along Montrose Avenue since the 1960s, Angelo's Pizza has been completely renovated inside and out, morphing into Angelo's Wine Bar, a full-service restaurant serving "refined rustic" Italian fare for dinner and weekend brunch.
In the month since he unveiled the changes, owner Ramez Fakhoury said the overwhelming response from neighbors has been "Thank you."
And that was before he launched "Case of the Mondays," a weekly wine tasting event that offers unlimited samplings of wines and appetizers for $20.
But for those who are immune to the charms of reclaimed barn wood and shared plates — to say nothing of the whiskey tastings and live music set to debut later this month — Fakhoury has good news.
Angelo's old menu is still available ... on one condition: items can be ordered for pickup or delivery only.
"You don't want to let go of your bread and butter," Fakhoury said.
Here's another option: Enjoy the old and new Angelo's at the same time.
A pair of pizzas — the Manzo Italiano and The Angelo's — crossed over from the former to the current menu.
So grab a custom-upholstered seat at the granite bar top, sip a glass of pinot grigio and chow on an Italian beef pie.
