Chicago Shakespeare Theater Returns to Wilson Park This Weekend

JEFFERSON PARK — The Chicago Shakespeare Theater will bring the best of the Bard's work to life at Wilson Park Friday and Saturday as part of the Shakespeare in the Parks performance series.

A specially equipped truck will roll into Frank J. Wilson Park, 4630 N. Milwaukee Ave., and unfold a stage, and then a troupe of actors will embody Shakespeare’s most memorable characters in a "unique and surprising" mash-up of scenes from the Bard's most celebrated plays, organizers said.

Performances are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Friday and 4 p.m. Saturday.

Other events that will take place at Far Northwest Side parks in August include:

• A gallery show of work completed by first-year Chicago Park District art students ages 6 to 70 will take place from 3 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Wilson Park, 4630 N. Milwaukee Ave.

• Practice your Warrior Two pose in a yoga class from 7:15-8 p.m. Aug. 5 at Norwood Circle Park, 7117 W. Peterson Ave.

• Learn how to salsa from 6 to 9 p.m. Aug. 6 at Portage Park, 4100 N. Long Ave., as part of the Chicago SummerDance series of events.

• Barrel of Monkeys will perform "That's Weird, Grandma" from 6:15 to 7:45 p.m. Aug. 6 at Gladstone Park, 5421 N. Menard Ave. The variety show features short plays written by third, fourth and fifth grade students and performed by professional actors.

• A gallery show of work completed by Chicago Park District art students will take place from 3 to 4 p.m. Aug. 7 at Edison Park, 6755 N. Northwest Highway.

• A performance by Urban Gateways designed to expose young people and families to diverse cultural and artistic experiences will take place from 5:45 to 6:45 p.m. Aug. 7 at Chopin Park, 3420 N. Long Ave.

• A gallery show of work, completed by first-year Chicago Park District art students ages 6 to 70, will take place from 2 to 3 p.m. Aug. 9 at Wilson Park, 4630 N. Milwaukee Ave.

• A dance show by a professional troupe will be from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Aug. 9 at Wilson Park, 4630 N. Milwaukee Ave.

• A gallery show of work completed by Chicago Park District art students will take place from 7 to 8 p.m. Aug. 10 at Wilson Park, 4630 N. Milwaukee Ave.

• Mili and Jed will jam with attendees to acoustic and alternative rock favorites. Musicians can bring their favorite instrument to play and sing along from 6 to 7 p.m. Aug. 12 at Merrimac Park, 6343 W. Irving Park Road.

• Acclaimed Flamenco troupe Soul and Duende will perform — and teach attendees a move or two — from 7 to 8 p.m. Aug. 12 at at Merrimac Park, 6343 W. Irving Park Road.
