CHICAGO — The Stanley Cup will make its second appearance at the Pride Parade Sunday.
After winning the cup in 2010, defenseman Brent Sopel accepted an invitation from the Chicago Gay Hockey Association to bring Lord Stanley along. Sopel thought it would be a great way to honor Brendan Burke, the son of Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Brian Burke, who was killed in a car accident two months after coming out earlier that year, according to the Chicago.gopride.com.
According to the Windy City Times, the CGHA will again play host to the Stanley Cup and Tommy Hawk, but no Blackhawk players are scheduled to attend. They'll ride atop the Jewel Foods and WGN Radio float in the No. 17 position.
