WEST ENGLEWOOD — Kristopher Claybon, 33, died Saturday morning from injuries after he was shot and critically injured near his home February 16, officials said.
Claybon, of the 5700 block of South Hermitage Avenue, was pronounced dead at his home at 8:21 a.m. Saturday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
His autopsy showed that he died of medical complications due to his gunshot wounds. The morgue ruled his death a homicide Sunday.
Claybon and a 37-year-old man were sitting in a car near Claybon's home around 4:45 p.m. February 16, when a car drove up and someone inside fired shots before fleeing, said Officer Thomas Sweeney, a Chicago police spokesman.
Claybon, who was 32 at the time, suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, Sweeney said.
The 37-year-old man was shot in his right shoulder and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, Sweeney said.
Police Sunday said the investigation was ongoing.
