THE LOOP — Retired Olympian Christian Vande Velde will take on local figures in a race during Bike the Drive. The hitch? The racers have to use Divvy bikes.

The race will start 7:30 a.m. Sunday at a sectioned-off portion of Lake Shore Drive between Jackson Drive and Monroe Street, according to an Active Transportation Alliance news release.

NBC 5 sports anchor Mike Adamle, WXRT DJ Jason Thomas and Ron Burke, Active Transportation Alliance executive director, will participate in the race.

The race is part of Bike the Drive, an annual event where Chicagoans bike on Lake Shore Drive. You can register for Bike the Drive online until 1 p.m. Saturday.
