Chicago Reactions to Rahm's Win: Joy, Anger and Apathy

CHICAGO — Mayor Rahm Emanuel declared victory Tuesday after challenger Jesus "Chuy" Garcia pushed him to the city's first-ever runoff.

While his supporters celebrated, others took to social media to mourn.

Despite the win, Emanuel acknowledged that Garcia's supporters did get him to sit up and pay attention.

"Thank you, Chicago," Emanuel told supporters at the Plumbers Union Hall. "Thank you for putting me through my paces. I will be a better mayor because of that." He pledged to "bridge the gaps" dividing the city's electorate.
