STREETERVILLE — Brian Hopkins has a sizeable lead over Alyx Pattison in the race for 2nd Ward Alderman a week before Election Day, according to a new poll.

The one-question poll of 318 likely voters in the gerrymandered ward was conducted Tuesday by Ogden & Fry for political news website Aldertrack. Hopkins, a former chief of staff to Cook County Commissioner John Daley and former president of the Streeterville Organization of Active Residents, drew support from 55 percent of the poll respondents. Pattison, a lawyer and local school council member who lives in Ukrainian Village, received nearly 45 percent.

Hopkins led six candidates with 29 percent of the vote in February's election, with Pattison not far behind at 24 percent. The runoff election for 2nd Ward Alderman is Tuesday, April 7.

More than 36 percent of poll respondents, the sample's largest chunk, lived in the 60610 zip code, which covers the Near North Side, Old Town, and Gold Coast. The second-largest chunk of respondents lived in Streeterville, while 21 percent of respondents resided in Ukrainian Village.
