CHICAGO — Former Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Steve Montador was reportedly found dead at his home early Sunday morning in Canada.

Montador, who played for the Blackhawks during the 2011-12 season, was 35 years old. He played in 571 NHL games, scoring 33 goals. Montador had reportedly battled depression after concussions ended his playing career.

“With deep sadness we mourn the unfortunate loss of former Blackhawk Steve Montador," the Blackhawks said in a statement. "We join the many others throughout the NHL in keeping Steve's family and friends in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”

Police do not suspect foul play.

The Blackhawks were hosting the Pittsburgh Penguins on Sunday.
