BRIDGEPORT — A winter coat drive for military veterans is under way at the new campaign headquarters for aldermanic candidate Patrick D. Thompson

Donations are accepted 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at the campaign office, 600 W. 26th St.

Coats and blankets will be accepted on Sunday if anyone is working there.

The coats will be sent to organizations that help homeless veterans of the American military.

Thompson's aldermanic campaign office has sprung up inside the former home of an Access Credit Union branch, which closed in April 2013 after financial troubles.

Thompson, an attorney and nephew of former mayor Richard M. Daley and Cook County Commissioner John Daley — and grandson of former Chicago Mayor Richard J. Daley — currently serves as a commissioner on the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago.

He's taking on two opponents, Maureen Sullivan and John Kozlar, in the race for 11th Ward alderman, which takes place Feb. 24, 2015.
