ALBANY PARK — A road closure remains in place at Lawrence and Albany avenues as crews continue emergency repairs after a sewer collapse at the intersection late last week.

Ald. Pat O'Connor (40th) sent an email to constituents on Monday stating that the repair should be complete by Dec. 24.

Cars are being warned of the road closure as far east as Western Avenue and drivers would be advised to divert to Montrose or Foster avenues.

The city's Water Department is racing to replace 900 miles of 100-year-old water mains by 2021, precisely to avoid breaks.

Work was already under way on Albany to install more than 2,000 feet of new water pipe between Argyle and Leland.
