Gluten-Free Restaurant Senza Earns Michelin Star For Second Year

LAKEVIEW — For the second year in a row, gluten-free restaurant Senza earned a Michelin star. It's the only Lakeview restaurant to pick up the coveted rating.

The upscale eatery at 2873 N. Broadway opened in August 2012 and has since expanded to include a gluten-free bakery and prix-fixe menu.

Senza is one of 24 Chicago restaurants that earned a Michelin rating this year.

When news broke Tuesday afternoon, fans took to social media to congratulate Chef Noah Sandoval and his team. Sandoval wasn't immediately available for comment.

Sandoval told DNAinfo Chicago last year that he felt lightheaded after Senza earned its first star.

The Schwa alum said that diners initially had a lot of negative ideas of what gluten-free means.

"It's mainly — 'Oh, why would you do that?' or 'It's dorky,' or 'I love bread'," he said. "I felt that way, too."

Sandoval said he hoped a Michelin star would help convince foodies that gluten-free food doesn't taste like cardboard.
