ALBANY PARK — A 15-mile bike ride will take cyclists through 150 years of Albany Park history on Saturday.
Led by Lee Diamond of Chicago Velo, the two-wheeled tour of the community gets under way at 11 a.m., starting out from Gompers Park at the corner of Pulaski and Foster avenues.
The park's Tudor-style fieldhouse, designed by architect Clarence Hatzfeld, is the first architectural gem on the tour.
The route then winds it way past Victorian residences and classic bungalows and takes in landmarks including Von Steuben High School, the gates of Bohemian National Cemetery, and the former Mayfair College, now home to the Irish American Heritage Center.
The ride moves at a leisurely pace, wrapping up about 4 p.m. Cost is $9, with tickets being sold in advance online. Helmets are required.
An upcoming tour of Lincoln Square is scheduled for Dec. 6 and a tour of North Center is planned for Jan. 31.
