ROGERS PARK — Who was Marion Mahony Griffin?
The Rogers Park/West Ridge Historical Society plans to answer that question during a presentation about the architect's life from 6-7:30 p.m. Monday at the Rogers Park Library, 6907 N. Clark St.
Ald. Joe Moore (49th), at the request of the Midwest's Consul-General of Australia, Roger Price, has proposed renaming Jarvis Beach after Griffin.
Griffin worked with Frank Lloyd Wright and later collaborated with her husband, Walter Griffin, to create the winning design for the new Australian capital city of Canberra.
She lived the latter part of her life in Rogers Park until her death in 1961.
Shiben Banerji, a professor at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, will give the presentation. It is free and open to the public and is co-sponsored by Chicago Public Library and the historical society.
