RAVENSWOOD — The 13th annual Ravenswood ArtWalk, taking place Saturday and Sunday, will showcase the work of the more than 150 artists who've helped transform a manufacturing district into a hub of creative activity.
Stretching along Ravenswood Avenue from Waveland to Foster, but largely concentrated between Irving Park Road and Lawrence Avenue (see map), the walk offers a rare glimpse into artists' studios and presents a sense of the breadth of enterprises that call the Ravenswood Corridor home — from printmakers to the Nature Museum's collection of taxidermied specimens.
An opening reception, featuring food, drink and bellydancing, will be held 7:30-10:30 p.m. on Friday at the Ravenswood Event Center, 4025 N. Ravenswood Ave. Admission is $10.
The ArtWalk itself is free, with strollers along the route encouraged to pop in on participating photographers, florists, painters, architects and more, 11 a.m.-7 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m.-6 p.m. on Sunday.
The ArtWalk Detour, a street fest within the larger ArtWalk event, will set up along Ravenswood between Berteau and Belle Plaine. Enjoy a brew in the Detour's craft beer garden, visit the food truck roundup and listen to live music while perusing the art on display. The Detour is open noon-9 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m.-6 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is $5.
