CHICAGO — New Taft High School principal Mark Grishaber is finding creative ways to get his students to come to class on time.
In a video published Monday, Grishaber — wearing a blue Taft hoodie and blue jeans while pedaling a BMX bike — tells students to make sure they're at Taft by 7:30 a.m. each day.
He then says "I'll be right back," and a Taft student double then performs several tricks, including a wheelie, on the bike with mix music as background.
Grishaber then pedals his way back to the camera, reminding students to "get here at 7:30 in the morning. That's what time we start."
"It was absolutely a ball," said of taping the video, which took place Friday. "I knew the kids would relate to it. There's been a problem with kids getting here on time, and a lot of time it's not their problem because traffic is so bad around here.
"We just posted the video, and I've already received a ton of positive feedback," Grishaber added.
