CHICAGO — The FBI says a man tried unsuccessfully to rob a Lakeview bank Tuesday afternoon.

The man entered the bank in the 3000 block of North Clark Street about 2:30 p.m., implied that he was carrying a weapon and gave the bank teller a note, according to Officer Thomas Sweeney, a police spokesman.

When the teller walked away, the man fled, Sweeney said.

Police said the man did not take any money from the bank.

According to the FBI, the suspect is a heavy-set white man believed to be in his 40s. He is 6-foot-1 to 6-foot-2 tall with salt and pepper hair and he was wearing a grey t-shirt at the time of the incident. He also wore a Northwestern University baseball cap.

On Monday, a bank on the Lakeview-Lincoln Park border was robbed, and a suspect apprehended. Earlier this month, another bank on Diversey was robbed.
