Shootings Leave At Least Six Wounded, Two Dead Since Sunday Afternoon

CHICAGO — Six people have been wounded, and two have been killed in shootings on the city's South and West sides since Sunday afternoon.

Around 10 p.m. Sunday, a man and a woman were killed, and a man with them was critically wounded in a shooting on the Far South Side.

In other shootings:

• The most recent shooting occurred overnight in the 7100 block of South Merrill Avenue in South Shore, said Officer Ana Pacheco, a Chicago Police Department spokeswoman.

Around 1:20 a.m., someone shot a 29-year-old man man in his left armpit during a robbery attempt, Pacheco said.

The man was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he is in fair condition, Pacheco said.

• Around 8 p.m. Sunday, a 23-year-old man was shot in Grand Crossing.

The man was standing on the sidewalk in the 7400 block of South Dante Avenue when someone in a dark-colored car opened fire, striking him in his leg, Pacheco said.

He is in good condition after being taken to Stroger Hospital, Pacheco said.

Police said the victim is gang-affiliated. 

• A few hours earlier, a 15-year-old boy was shot in Bronzeville.

Around 4:55 p.m., the boy was standing on the sidewalk in the 700 block of East 50th Place when someone from in a dark-colored car fired multiple shots in his direction, striking the boy in his chest, Pacheco said.

The car fled the scene, Pacheco said, and the boy was taken to Stroger Hospital where he is in serious condition.

• About a half an hour ealrier, a man was critically wounded in a Fernwood shooting.

The 21-year-old man, who is a documented gang member, was shot in his abdomen around 4:20 p.m. in the 10400 block of South Union Avenue, Pacheco said.

He was at a park when someone walked up to him and opened fire, police said. 

The shooter ran awy, while the man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in critical condition, Pacheco said.

• Around 1:25 p.m., a 24-year-old man was shot in his foot in West Pullman, Pacheco said.

He was taken to Metro South Hospital, where he is in good condition, Pacheco said. No other information surrounding the shooting was immediately available.
