Girl, 16, Shot to Death in West Englewood

CHICAGO — A 16-year-old girl was killed and a 20-year-old man was wounded in a shooting in West Englewood early Saturday.

About 12:50 a.m., the girl and the man were outside in the 7200 block of South Laflin Street when they were shot in a possible drive-by, said Officer Ana Pacheco, a police spokeswoman. 

The man, who authorities said is a documented gang member, was shot in his head and his back and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in "stable" condition, Pacheco said.

The 16-year-old girl suffered from a gunshot wound in her head, and was found dead on the scene when police arrived. The cook County Medical Examiner's Office identified her as Shaquise Buckner.

She was pronounced dead on the scene at 12:55 a.m.
