WICKER PARK — Brobagel, the new eatery from the owner of Wicker Park's Piece Brewery and Pizzeria offers traditional bagels and toppings on its menu as well as beer bagels with Sriracha hot sauce and whipped tofu spreads.

Scheduled to open by mid-August or sooner, Brobagel will offer 12 varieties of bagels, nine spreads and 20 sandwiches including morning "commuter specials" as well as build-your-own sandwiches, soups, salads and desserts.

Mixed, boiled and baked onsite, the bagels will cost $1.49 each or $17.99 for a dozen.

Drinks include soda, Metropolis Coffee, water and orange juice.

The restaurant is take-out and delivery only, though there is a long counter for those wishing to stand and a walk-up window for customers ordering from the sidewalk.

For owner Bill Jacobs, the name Brobagel harkens back to earlier days when he made and delivered bagels with his three siblings, who ran a shop called Jacob Bros. Bagels.

Jacobs Bros. Bagels first opened as The Bagel Bakery in 1983 and eventually expanded to 20 locations before the business was sold in 1999.

Though his brothers have since left the restaurant industry, Jacobs went on to open Piece, a brewery and pizzeria at 1927 W. North Ave., adjacent to Brobagel.

Though his brothers are not owners of Brobagel, Jacobs said they have given their "love and support" and  were involved in the design and construction of the 1,128-square-foot eatery, which features reclaimed wood, exposed brick walls and high ceilings.

Brobagel will bring 30 new jobs to the neighborhood, Jacobs said.

Brobagel, 1931 W. North Ave.  Hours are 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. daily.  Ph: 773-772-4422.
