ROGERS PARK — The Chariot Festival of India and the official ribbon cutting for the renovated Touhy Park playground will kick off summer in Rogers Park this weekend.
On Saturday, Ald. Joe Moore (48th) and the Tony Iniquez of the Touhy Park advisory council will unveil the park's renovated playground. The $450,000 renovation began in September.
The ceremony begins at 11:30 a.m.
At 11:30 a.m. Sunday, the Chariot Festival of India parade will begin on Howard Street. Revelers will pull a 36-foot-long chariot while dancing and singing, according to organizers from Rogers Park's Hare Krishna Temple.
The parade will end up in Loyola Park for a festival with a "free feast" and other festivities — including yoga and meditation — from 12:30-6 p.m.
