Man Charged in Murder of 31-Year-Old Found Fatally Shot in Burning Building

CHICAGO — A man has been charged in the murder of a 31-year-old man found fatally shot in a burning South Chicago building in February.

Matthew X. Jackson, 25, of the 8000 block of South Champlain Avenue, was charged with first-degree murder and armed robbery in connection with the death of Davy Easterling.

Easterling, 31, of the 8100 block of South Vernon Avenue, was found after crews doused a small fire in the 8300 block of South Baker Avenue at 6 a.m. on Feb. 21.

Firefighters were called to fight a blaze on the first floor of a 2½-story home and found a dead body.

An autopsy later found that Easterling had been fatally shot multiple times.
