UPTOWN — Chicago again experienced the gridlock that can only mean the president is in town Thursday, as a fleet of heavy aircraft, including helicopters and a massive dual-rotor Osprey, descended upon a parking lot near Montrose Harbor.
Lake Shore Drive was shut down in both directions to accomodate the president's arrival, but a group of youth soccer players were unfazed as the ungainly Osprey landed.
President Barack Obama was in town to attend a pair of fundraisers benefiting Illinois Sen. Dick Durbin and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee.
Crowds gathered near Montrose Harbor about 6:30 p.m. to catch a glimpse of the president's motorcade. After landing four helicopters near the harbor, Obama's motorcade headed south on Lake Shore Drive.
