PILSEN — Moody Tongue — the Pilsen brewery from former Goose Island brewmaster Jared Rouben — turned out its first beers late last week, with Rouben confident he'll have a tasting room open by June.

On Thursday at Moody Tongue, 2136 S. Peoria St., Rouben brewed his first beer, a paw paw Belgian golden ale made with local paw paw fruit. His next brew will be a crushed green coriander Belgian witbier.

But don't look to Rouben for fancy beer names.

"There's so many beers out there with names like the 'F-16 Fighter Jet,' but then you have no clue what you’ve purchased," Rouben said laughing. "With my beers, the goal is to be very transparent. I want people to know what they’re getting."

Starting early next month, those looking to try Rouben's anti-fancy brews can head to Dusek's Beer and Board, Publican, GT Fish & Oyster, The Bristol, and Aviary, among others.
