WICKER PARK — Rich Labriola knows bread. He started the Labriola Baking Company, making artisan bread known for its unique taste.
Now, he knows doughnuts, too, with his new Stan's Donuts & Coffee shop feeding the masses near the Damen Blue Line stop in Wicker Park.
"Most of these shops are opened by pastry chefs, and bread bakers got a little chip on their shoulder," Labriola said. "And this one's opened by a bread baker."
"There's a difference — good or bad, you can find out yourself. I like the difference," Labriola said.
Ted Brunson checked out the shop at 1560 W. Damen out for his latest Good in the Hood spot.
Not only did he find delicious doughnuts — he also found a Labriola-designed surprise that doughnut eaters on the run will appreciate.
