CHICAGO — Some 400,000 students might have had their fun when school was canceled for four extremely cold days in January, but they'll make up for it by going to classes on extra days in March and June, CPS said.

CPS on Tuesday let parents know that that the snow day on Jan. 27 would be offset by a school day on June 12, and the the day off on Jan. 28 would be made up on June 13.

The schools system previously announced that the canceled day on Jan. 6 would be made up for on March 28, which was supposed to be a day off for elementary school students, while the weather day on Jan. 7 will be made up on June 11.

School was canceled four times last month as subzero temperatures and wind chills gripped the city.

June 16 will be the first day of summer break for elementary and middle school students, and June 23rd will be their first day of summer programs.

This winter has been one of the coldest and snowiest in recent years, meteorologists have said.

January was the third snowiest month on record with 33.7 inches of snow, according to the National Weather Service. It was also the 10th coldest month on record since 1872.
