THE LOOP — The Chicago River can't support much palatable crustacean life, but a new restaurant opening on its banks Jan. 21 will have crab, shrimp and oysters in abundance.
Hubbard Inn restaurateur Adolfo Garcia was inspired by Chicago from the 1930s through the 1950s in decorating Pearl Tavern, his new Loop eatery at 180 N. Wacker Dr.
Hardwood floors, vintage ceilings and millwork, and brass and marble accents transport the restaurant back in time, but the menu is modern American. Highlights include a rotating crudo bar with a carpaccio trio and tuna poke, grilled octopus, crab churros and oysters from the east and west coasts.
Outdoor seating will be available during the summer, according to a release.
From Jan. 21 through Jan. 30, diners with reservations will be treated to complementary oyster tastings. Tables can be booked online or by calling 312-629-1030.
Once open, the restaurant's hours will be 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 4 p.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturdays.
