CHICAGO — The CEO of the Chicago Housing Authority is resigning after two years in his position, a move that was announced during a Board of Commissioners meeting Tuesday morning.

Charles Woodyard is leaving the position to spend more time with his family and pursue "other career opportunities," a statement from CHA said.

Woodyard was appointed as CEO by Mayor Rahm Emanuel in October 2011 after spending nine years as the president and CEO of the Charlotte Housing Authority in North Carolina, according to the CHA's website.

"Charles has dutifully guided CHA through the implementation of the agency’s new strategic initiative — Plan Forward — and was instrumental in creating many of its primary components to help build strong, vibrant communities throughout Chicago," said Board of Commissioners chairperson Zaldwaynka "Z" Scott at the meeting Tuesday.

"He also worked closely with a host of key stakeholders to coordinate public and private investments to ensure that CHA’s portfolio is safe, decent and sustainable."
