CHICAGO — Katsu Japanese, the little sushi restaurant on Peterson Avenue in West Ridge, has won the No. 1 spot on Zagat's 2014 survey of the city's best restaurant.
"In one of the year’s biggest surprises," Zagat says, "Katsu, the [West Ridge] hole-in-the-wall sushi spot, takes the win in this category with Grant Achatz’s culinary empire of Next and Alinea trailing closely behind."
The survey compiles responses from 7,634 diners who eat out an average of 4.7 times a week, including lunches and dinners, and spend an average of $38.99 per meal.
The diners rated and reviewed 1,147 Chicago restaurants, according to Zagat.
Last year, Alinea took the top spot with Katsu in second place.
