CHICAGO — Checkmate, comrade.
Cook County Jail inmates will square off against Russian prisoners Wednesday in an online chess match — the first of its kind.
According to the Cook County Sheriff's Office, 10 detainees at the jail will participate in an online chess match against Russian Federal Prison Service inmates.
"This is the first time inmates from these two countries will participate in such an event," the sheriff's office said.
Dr. Mikhail Korenman, a Russia native who runs the Cook County Jail chess program, will join Sheriff Tom Dart in a prematch news conference at 9 a.m. Wednesday. Russian officials will join the conversation via Skype.
The match begins at 9:30 a.m.
