RIVER NORTH — In a neighborhood known for its fine dining, a no-frills burger-and-shake joint could be a welcome addition, provided it's as iconic as the New York-born Shake Shack.
"We're pleased to report that Shake Shack is coming to Chicago in late 2014," Shake Shack spokesman Greg Waters confirmed to DNAinfo.com Chicago via email.
Waters said a formal announcement will be made sometime late Monday or early Tuesday.
Eater Chicago first reported rumors that the fast-casual eatery was eyeing the storefront at 66 E. Ohio St., which currently houses a Harley-Davidson dealership.
Shake Shack's menu varies by location, though most include the "Shack-ago," a hot dog with Chicago-style fixings, as well as burgers, frozen custard and "concretes," which are milkshakes with densely-packed mix-ins.
The beloved restaurant chain first opened in Madison Square Park in 2004, and has since expanded across New York City and beyond, with outposts in Miami, Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia.
Shake Shack is part of the Union Square Hospitality Group, a collection of restaurants owned and operated by restaurateur Danny Meyer that includes Michelin-starred Eleven Madison Park, The Modern and Gramercy Tavern in New York.
