ROSELAND — Mayor Rahm Emanuel said Boston's response to the marathon bombing was exemplary and would prompt Chicago to update its emergency plans.
Emanuel said that critical to Boston's response to the blasts was the emergency plan the city had in place to deal with such an event.
"We have a very good plan. We did it for NATO," Emanuel said, citing the city's hosting of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization last year. "I want to scrub what we have to make sure it's up to [Boston's] standard."
Emanuel said the city's emergency plans were already undergoing periodic review, but that process would intensify given the findings coming out of Boston.
"The fact that they had a well-rehearsed and well-thought-out, well-developed emergency medical response was crucial in saving lives," Emanuel said, adding that it also proved helpful that so many emergency personnel were already onsite as part of the Boston Marathon.
Emanuel made the remarks during a news conference held at Fernwood Park in Roseland.
