CHICAGO — Organizers for the Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle rerouted part of the 8K race Sunday after a man threatened to jump into the Chicago River along the planned course.

Police received a call about the man, who was standing on the State Street Bridge, at 6:50 a.m., said Officer Jose Estrada, a police spokesman.

By 8:30 a.m., fire and police officials had successfully talked the man down, Estrada said. He was in custody and being evaluated by the Chicago Fire Department.

Runners were originally slated to head south on North State Street from West Grand Avenue to East Jackson Drive, Estrada said.

Now, they'll run from West Grand Avenue to North Wabash Avenue, from Wabash to East Wacker Drive, and from Wacker to North State Street, before continuing on the original course.

The Shamrock Shuffle kicked off at 8:32 a.m., just two minutes behind schedule.
