ENGLEWOOD — Elihu Yale Elementary School and Benjamin Banneker Elementary School are both closing, Ald. Roderick Sawyer (6th) said.

Students from Elihu Yale, 7025 S. Princeton Ave., will go to John Harvard Elementary School of Excellence, 7525 S. Harvard Ave., he said.

CPS officials also told him that Benjamin Banneker, 6656 S. Normal Blvd., is also closing as part of its move to close or consolidate more than 50 schools.

Sawyer said he was told by CPS officials that the students at Banneker would remain in the building and the staff from Benjamin E. Mays Elementary Academy, 838 W. Marquette Road, will take over the school.

"I am not feeling any of these closures," Sawyer said.
