THE BRONX — Thieves tied a 10-year-old boy by his neck to a pipe before stealing about $8,000 in jewelry from a Wakefield apartment, police said Thursday.

The thieves broke into the basement apartment of the building on Matilda Avenue between East 239th and East 240th streets, placed a cloth belt around the boy's neck and tied him to a pipe on Sept. 27 about 3 p.m., police said.

They then stole about $8,000 worth of jewelry before fleeing, police said.

It was not clear how long the boy was tied up or why he was home alone, the NYPD said.

One the robbers was wearing a red T-shirt, jeans and had a shaved head, police said. The other was wearing a white T-shirt and jeans, they added.
