STATEN ISLAND — A man sucker-punched an NYPD traffic agent and knocked him unconscious after being written a ticket earlier in the day Wednesday, police said.

The 50-year-old traffic agent was walking near the corner of Heberton Street and Post Avenue at about when Divon Cochrane, 27, came up from behind and socked him in the throat about 2:55 p.m., the NYPD said.

The traffic agent fell to the ground and was temporarily knocked unconscious, police said.

He was taken to Staten Island University Hospital and treated for a head injury and a bruise on his neck, police said.

It wasn't clear if the victim was the one who had given the attacker the ticket, when Cochrane had received the citation or what the ticket was for.

He surrendered at the 121st Precinct after seeing himself on TV, the NYPD said.

Cochrane has been arrested 27 times, mostly on drug charges, according to police.

He was awaiting arraignment in Staten Island Criminal Court Friday morning.
