WASHINGTON HEIGHTS — An unlicensed hit-and-run driver who mowed down a woman walking her dog Friday night, turned himself in Wednesday morning, police said.

Edward Heredia, 23, was driving a dark Chrysler along West 157th Street and St. Nicholas Avenue when he struck the 43-year-old woman at approximately 10:20 p.m., leaving her with severe injuries to her head and body, police said.

The woman was rushed to St. Luke’s Hospital, where she was listed in critical condition, police said. She also suffered an apparent aneurysm as a result of the hit, according to reports, though police did not confirm that detail.

Heredia was charged with leaving the scene of an accident, failure to yield to a pedestrian, failure to exercise due care and not possessing a license.

He had not been arraigned yet, according to the Manhattan District Attorney's office.
