ASTORIA — A robber choked and repeatedly punched a woman in the face after following her into an apartment building and stealing her credit card — leaving the victim with several broken bones, the NYPD said.

The 35-year-old woman was entering the building near 31st Drive and 21st Street in Astoria around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, when a man followed her into the elevator headed to the fifth floor.

Once there, the suspect put the woman in a chokehold and repeatedly punched her in the face, before stealing her credit card and fleeing in an unknown direction, police said.

The victim was taken to New York-Presbyterian Hospital, where she was treated for several bone fractures, according to the NYPD.

The suspect is believed to be between 25 and 30 years old and weigh around 160 pounds, and was last seen wearing brown boots, blue jeans and a black shirt.

Anyone with information is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS or for Spanish 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
