EAST WILLIAMSBURG — A motorcyclist suffered life-threatening injuries after a pickup he was trying to pass hit him on Metropolitan Avenue on Friday morning, police said.

The 28-year-old man on the motorcycle, whose name wasn't immediately released, was riding east on Metropolitan Avenue and tried to pass the truck heading in the same direction until it hit him about 8 a.m., NYPD officials said.

"[The biker] was spread out, face down in the street. He wasn't moving. I thought he was dead. There was blood all over the place," said Shaun Betha, 44, who was driving by the scene at the time.

"Someone put something, like a cloth, over his face. No one wanted to touch him," Betha added.

The biker suffered head injuries and was being treated at Elmhurst Hospital and was listed in critical condition, an FDNY spokeswoman said. It wasn't clear if he was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The pickup driver, a 34-year-old man, remained at the scene and wasn't immediately ticketed or charged, police said.

Police said they're still investigating the crash.
