By Ben Fractenberg | August 1, 2017 6:26pm

QUEENS — An elderly man died Tuesday after a package he opened outside a Springfield Gardens home exploded last week, police said.

George Wray, 73, opened the cylindrical container packed with black powder that had been sitting outside a building he owned on 222nd Street near 145th Road Friday, when it exploded, badly injuring his head, torso and legs, according to the NYPD and reports.

Wray, who lived nearby on 229th Street, was taken to Nassau Community Medical Center, where he died four days later.

The U.S. Postal Service did not immediately respond to a request for comment Tuesday.
