Arrest Made in Fatal Shooting Near Prospect Park, Two Others Sought: NYPD

BROOKLYN — Police have nabbed one man and are looking for two others in a shootout near Prospect Park last week that left one man dead and another hospitalized, police said.

Damani Thomas, 29, of Marine Park is in custody for the shooting that killed 26-year-old Aboubacar Fofana of Bedford-Stuyvesant early Friday morning.

Thomas was charged Saturday with murder, attempted murder and criminal possession of a weapon, court records show, for spraying a parked SUV with bullets at the corner of Parkside Avenue and Parade Place at 3:26 a.m.

Fofana was shot in the jaw, neck and back while sitting in the driver’s seat and was pronounced dead at Maimonides Hospital. A 20-year-old male passenger was also shot and was treated at Kings County Hospital for wounds to his back, police said.

A third passenger, a 22-year-old man, was uninjured during the shooting, police said.

NYPD officials were still looking for two other suspects as of Monday morning, the department said. Police said the suspects fled the scene of the shooting on bicycles.

Thomas is being held without bail and is due back in court July 21, court records show.
