Person Injured Falling 20 Feet Into Abandoned Tunnel, FDNY Says

THE BRONX — A person was seriously hurt in a fall into an abandoned train tunnel in Melrose, an FDNY spokesman said.

The person, whose identity wasn't immediately released, tumbled into the tunnel under Brook Avenue and East 156th Street minutes before 2 p.m., the spokesman said.

Firefighters were able to raise the person to the street level, officials said.

The person was seriously injured and treated at Lincoln Medical Center for injuries that weren't considered life threatening, officials said.

Neither MTA nor NYPD officials had further information.
