THE BRONX — Police saved a group of 10 children who fell into the Hudson River after their boat capsized Thursday morning, officials said.

The children were on a small boat belonging to the Riverdale Yacht Club when the boat overturned in the river near the Spuyten Dyvil Bridge at about 10:40 a.m., according to the Interstate Parkway Police.

“As marine units arrived, instructors from the school had just removed the children from the water and onto small power vessels,” the agency said in a statement.

“The instructor vessel was overcrowded and taking on water from the weight of the children and therefore officers from this agency transferred the children onto Marine 1 and transported them back to the yacht club.”

Swells were higher Thursday due to “tide change and high winds,” the police added, which could have caused the small boat to tip over.

No one was injured, officials added.

A spokeswoman for the yacht club said the children were all wearing life vests and are part of a summer sailing program.
