LONG ISLAND CITY — A driver was killed and a teenage passenger critically injured after crashing into a freightliner truck early Saturday, according to the NYPD.

Police say 28-year-old Steven Narvaez, of Woodside, was driving a Toyota Corolla westbound on Skillman Avenue shortly before 6 a.m. when he ran a red light, then collided with a truck at the intersection of Queens Boulevard.

His car came to rest beneath the trailer area of the truck, which had been traveling north on Queens Boulevard at the time of the crash, police said.

Narvaez was pronounced dead at the scene, and a 17-year-old girl who was riding in the car's passenger seat was taken to Elmhurst General Hospital in critical condition, officials said.

The truck driver remained at the scene and was not injured in the incident, police said.
