CHINATOWN — A cyclist was injured when he and a taxi collided on Canal Street on Monday morning, an NYPD spokesman said.

The cyclist, 35, was heading east on Canal Street about 6:45 a.m. when he collided with the northbound taxi Bowery, according to the spokesman.

The cyclist had run a red light before colliding with the taxi, which had the right of way, said a police source.

The cyclist had been behind another vehicle before emerging in front of the taxi out of the driver's blind spot, the source said.

The cyclist was initially listed in critical condition at Bellevue, police said, but according to a police source was in stable condition as of Monday afternoon.

The taxi's driver remained at the scene and wasn't immediately arrested or charged, police said. The NYPD Collision Investigation Squad is investigating the matter, said a police source.

Officers gave the driver a Breathalyzer test at the scene.
